NI-CD SRM BATTERIES
SRM batteries are suitable for numerous rail applications.
They are used for type M discharges (see IEC 60623) i.e.
they provide
optimal power for at least one hour.
SRM Ni-Cd batteries use sintered/plastic bonded technology
plates.
Benefits
Used by numerous rail equipment manufacturers, Saft's
SRM range features many advantages.
• Long battery life
• Two years without
water replenishment
• Reduced weight and
volume
• Excellent chargeability
• High reliability
Because of these characteristics - especially their long
life-time, low maintenance requirement and high reliability
- the operational costs of SRM batteries are considerably
reduced.
Capacity range of 25 Ah to 440 Ah.
Various configurations available :
• Containers :
steel or stainless steel or polypropylene or FR plastic
containers and are ideally suited to the requirements
of rail transport.
The stainless steel container is specifically designed
for railway rolling stock applications, providing a high
resistance to chemical and physical impact.
• Crates :
the steel containers are assembled in wooden crates
the plastic containers are assembled in compact steel
crates
Standards
Conforming to international mechanical and electrical
standards IEC 60623, IEC 77, NFF 64018, NFF 16101, DIN
40771, and BS 6260.
Plate technology :
SRM Ni-Cd batteries use sintered/plastic bonded technology
plates. This technology, developed for rail applications,
brings together a sintered positive electrode and a plastic
bonded negative electrode (pbe): the very strong positive
plate provides very high performance thanks to a perforated
steel strip on which nickel powder is sintered. The plates
are insulated by means of microporous separators allowing
the electrolyte to circulate. This design provides numerous
advantages in terms of power, volume, weight and cyclability.
